Question : 4

Many accidents at the factory are caused of workers do not read warning signs.

a) are caused because

b) is the cause of

c) are caused by

d) are a cause of

e) No correction required

Answer: (a)

Let us consider all the options one by one. (a) has ‘is the cause of’ in place of ‘are caused of’ and hence it cannot be a correct option.

Now, Let us move on to option (b). When we replace the phrase given in bold by the phrase given in option (b), the sentence becomes "........... factory are caused by of workers........." How can we use two preposition ‘by’ and ‘of’ together?

Therefore, this option also is ruled out. On replacement by option (c) the given sentence becomes grammatically correct and meaningful. Hence we must go with this option.

Question : 5

We have been look forward to the arrival of the new machinery for two weeks.

a) looking forward to

b) looked forward for

c) looked forward at

d) looking forward

e) No correction required

Answer: (a)

The correct phrase is ‘look forward to’. Since the given sentence is in present perfect continuous tense, the obvious structure of the sentence should be – S + have/has been + V4 (v+ing)+......

Hence the verb ‘look’ should be ‘looking’. Therefore, the correct phrase for the given sentence would be ‘looking forward to’. We see that only in option (c) the phrase is correctly written. Hence, go with it.
